The threatented tenements are in the foreground of this picture, with the Sailor's Ark visibile further back. Under Mountgange's plans, there will be a "breakthrough" (i.e. demolition) roughly half way along these tenements. They were designed in the 1930s by City Architect EJ MacRae and are referred to by Chares McKean as "pioneering work at 221-229 Canongate"*.
